MASTER SPARRING & UMPIRE SEMINARS

6-7 February 2016 Sydney Australia.
What a weekend of TKD, saw a fast paced sparring seminar conducted by Master Daher and Mr El-Sheikh. We covered some training techniques that had not been seen before that proved very challenging even for the most experienced.
The event saw a number of senior members attend in support, Mr Harper, Mr Christensen, Mr Abdallah and Mathew O’Neil 4 Dan from the Central Coast who originally graded to 1st degree under Master Daher a number of years ago. It was a pleasure having him there.

The following day saw the first of 3 of these courses this year by Mr Kelly, ITF Taekwon-Do Australia Umpire director. There were 22 participants at the event which covered the basics of umpiring. With the use of a powerpoint presentation, Mr Kelly was able to deliver a terrific presentation for the future of umpiring in Australia. All in all it was a very good weekend, if you get the chance we highly recommended you attend these courses to improve you knowledge even if you don’t want to do umpiring it will definitely help you understand the rules as a competitor. If you are 2 Dan and above you can apply for a B grade certificate through ITF
Headquarters and 4 Dan’s and above will be heading to New Zealand to obtain
their A grade certification later this year.

Sunshine Coast Umpire Seminar is scheduled for 14 February 2014 and also a Melbourne seminar is scheduled to be conducted by Mr Gerard Kelly.

More technical seminars will be scheduled by ITF Taekwon-do Australia Executive Board in its strategy to develop and promote Taekwon-do in Australia leading up to the 2018 ITF World Cup Championships Gold Coast Australia.

National Squad Schedule Clarification

National Squad schedule clarification of minimum attendance requirements has been raised by Senior ITF Taekwon-do Australia instructor & umpire committee chairman Mr Gerard Kelly.

The proposed schedule is tentative and will be confirmed by the National Coach once appointed by the executive board.

Pending the National Squad members who register and their locations once known, final number of events and locations will be determined by the National Coach.

Squad members are required to attend at least 75% of the proposed National Squad program.

Participation in the ITF World Cup 2016 in Hungary is recommended but not compulsory for National Squad members. It has been scheduled on the program as an ideal event to attend in preparation for Ireland 2017, but once again we state it is not a mandatory event to attend by the National Squad members.

We would like to thank Mr Gerard Kelly for bringing this to the attention of all and hope this clarifies the position to all prospective squad members.

Regards

Moustapha El -Sheikh
